XP Professional doesn't detect external devices

I just upgraded from Windows XP to Windows XP
Professional. Now my computer does not detect my printer
(so I can't install driver) or my digital camera (which
has a built-in driver. Does someone know why and how I
can fix this? Thank you.

I checked the device manager and got "working properly".
But I'm not that good at this stuff so if I should be
doing something else besides going to the device manager,
please let me know. Thanks
