Helping someone with a VistaQuest DV7 digital video camera.
She has XP Home and I have XP Professional.
When I connect the camera to her laptop, Dev Manager shows Unknown Device
and Driver Details says "No driver installed or needed"...device does not
show up
under My Computer.
When I connect the camera to my pc it recognized the device as a USB Mass
Storage Device in Dev Manager and it appears under My Computer and I can
download/play all video clips. Using Dev Manager it shows that it loaded
USBSTOR.SYS as a driver.
Checked her laptop and USBSTOR.SYS does exist. Tried using Dev Manager to
Update the driver and pointed it to the folder containing
USBSTOR.SYS...update
tells me that it can't find a better driver than the one it's using (even
though Dev
Manager still says it's not using a driver and one's not needed).
We are unable to download pics/vidoe clips from the camera. I would have
thought
that XP Home would use the same driver as XP Pro? But even if I copy
USBSTOR.SYS onto a CD and then use it to attempt to update the driver on her
laptop via Dev Manager it tells me it can't find a better driver (even if I
point the update to the CD)...??? I can't think of any way to force XP Home
to use the new
driver....any ideas why XP Home is acting different from XP Pro and how I
can get
her laptop to recognize the camera as a USB storage device?
By the way, we are both running Windows auto update and so should be up to
date with fixes.
