Hi,
Please save your current configuration by using system restore utility.
To create a Restore Point
=======================
To start System Restore, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System
Tools, and then click System Restore.
2. The first time you use System Restore, there are two options on the
Welcome page:
a. Restore my computer to an earlier time
b. Create a restore point
3. Click Create a restore point, and then click Next.
4. In the Restore point description box, type a name to identify this
restore point. System Restore automatically adds to this name the date and
time that this Restore Point is created.
a. To finish creating this restore point, click Create.
b. To cancel restore point creation and return to the Welcome to
System Restore screen, click Back.
c. To cancel restore point creation and exit the System Restore
Wizard, click Cancel.
Once you have saved your configuration you can proceed with Uninstall.
Hope this helps ......

--I did step 1 and 2. I got a dialog box that said Windows could not find
C:\Windows\$KB828741$. I cut and pasted your text without quotes so it was
not a mistype. I then did a search for spuninst.exe and found one in the
C:\Windows\$xpsp1hfm$\KB828741 directory. When I ran the spuninst file in
that directory, a box popped up and said "This program removes Windows XP
and restores your previous configuration. To remove Windows XP, click
Next". Undaunted by the possibility of not having an operating system, I
clicked next. The next box that popped up said something about installed
programs not working if I continued. I chickened out at this point and
cancelled.
--
--Also, assuming that I can get the thing uninstalled, is is necessary to
remove it from the Add/remove programs listing? If I can ever get Nortons
installed, I am going to reinstall the hotfix.

--Thanks,
