norton antivirus conflict with windows xp

hello i recently bought an emachine with xp and i tried
to download a bought cd of norton antivirus 2004
professional and i was almost down when the error, 3009.0
came up and led me to the help website of symantec they
said to unistall norton antivirus and uninstall SECURITY
UPDATE HOTFIX-KB828741 and then reinstall norton and
reinstall the security update WELL I CANNOT UNISTALL THE
SECURITY UPDATE FROM THE ADD REMOVE MENU FROM CONTROL
PANEL...CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

Search that article for the text "Removal Information" and read how to use
Hotfix.exe to remove this. Maybe that will help. Let us know!

Click on 'My Computer'

On the left in the 'System Task' box---select 'add or remove programs'

A list of all available programs will then be listed including KB828741

Select 'Windows XP Hotfix - KB828741

Click on 'remove'

This will remove the KB828741 program.

Install Norton's Antivirus

If you are on automatic updating for Windows..you will be quickly notified
that an update is available and the KB828741 will be reinstalled...or you can
go to the update site and do it manually.
