XP Home SP1 Setup Need help

From a computer with no OS Im tring to install XP Home
SP1 Full Edition. I've read all the articles on how to do
an install but Im getting errors I cant find on the
website.

Ive had XP installed before on this computer and I meet
all XP requirements. I get as far as Installing windows
with 38 minutes left and I get the following Errors.
Please help if you can. Thanks

Error:1
Instalation Failed: D:\I386\asms error message:
Incorrect function.

Error:2
Fatal Error: One fo the components that windows
need to continue setup couldnt be installed. Incorrect
function.

Error:3
SXS.dll : syntax error in Manifest or policy file.
D:\I386\asms\1000\msft\windows\gdiplus\gdiplus.man Line 4

Hi Ted,

Make sure that there is no finger prints, scratches, smudges - Once you have
made
sure that it is clean, do the following:

Restart the computer with the Windows XP CD "OUT" of the CDROM drive
You will be prompted to insert the XP CD back in with the computer reboots
Setup should continue.

If after checking the physical cd as suggested you find it is all right,
do a RAM test. Most failures to install MS operating systems are
because of faulty hardware, starting with the RAM as first culprit
followed by the hard drive as the next.
