XP Home Edition-Later Version

Guest

I have PCs purchased with Home Edition Service Pack 2 and need to upgrade to
XP Professional for networking. The problem is we bought licenses (not profit
organization) and the XP Pro is Service Pack 1. Is there a resolution? Can I
reinstall Home Edition XP with Service Pack 1 as a fix?

Thank you for your assistance!

The XP Pro w/SP1 will not install over Home w/SP2 because the Home w/SP2
appears as a 'newer' version and you are not allowed to go 'backwards'.

If you have a CD burner the thing to do is to download the full SP2 update
and slipstream it with the XP Pro SP1 CD to make a new CD that is now XP Pro
w/SP2.

Do a Google search on slipsteaming and you'll find a complete set of
instructions in many places.

No matter with that,xp home shouldnt be upgraded to pro, microsoft
specifically
says that a clean installation of pro is the best way to install.Simply
install xp pro
cd,exit the info page, restart computer, boot to xp cd,then at info
page,select,
install xp,new copy.XP will then format the hd and install auto.

That's baloney. It is totally acceptable to upgrade to Home to Pro as long
as there is no version conflict - as I mentioned earlier.

Absolutely untrue, the upgrade works great and please tell us all where to
find this specific Microsoft recommendation.
Prep for a clean install and take the upgrade as the first option.

Michael:

How do I prep for a "clean install"? Do I follow Andrew's earlier
instructions or are you referring to another process.

Thanks to all!
