Worried about installing Office XP Service Pack 3...?

Hiya,

Automatic updates is suggesting I need to download the above update but I'm
nervous... Last time I downloaded a service pack (SP2) using automatic
updates, it never warned me there may be problems with certain computers or
if you had ad/spyware detction and removal programs installed on your PC. I
only discovered these 'warnings' after my PC then stopped working, was ruined
completely, lost all of my documents and photos (yes, I know I should have
backed them up but I didn't and I was distraught - my baby photos, first
Christmas/Birthdays you name it were lost forever!) and resulted in me having
to buy a new hard drive in replacement - God I felt like suing Microsoft when
I learnt of all the warnings on this website about SP2. When my PC was back
up and running, out of curiosity I typed in the error messages I'd received
after installing SP2 and it was all as a result of that blinking thing!
GRRRRR!

So, (rant over) as you can imagine I'm very wary of ANY updates/downloads
now and I'm really not sure whether to download this one or not...? It
says it contains SP2 which scares me.... Think I'd have a fit if it happened
again, plus we couldn't afford it to, so close to Christmas. Please can some
knowledgable person advise me / convince me!?

Also if anyone can recommend the best free ad/spy ware programs that'd be
great too!

Thanks, Gillie xx

Office XP Service Pack 3 (SP3)
You can always manually download SP3 rather than using automatic updates. The above
link tells you all about it. I have installed it without problems.

Hello, I use MS Office2000 SR1 and installed SP3, had several small
problems that were fixed with the help of a MS Office Word newsgroup.
Have one medium problem not fixed.
Tried repair using the Office CD when requested without success.

Have you tried using Google search engine, type "MS Office SP3"
in the search box for general information concerning SP3? Please
remember that the overwhelming SP3 installs have no problems.
Another poster has presented you with several excellent links for your
second ?.
Take Care.
