won't start

Bill H.

Suddenly, a win2k install stopped working. It starts up, but then an error
about "explorer.exe has generated errors" or such and windows stops working.

I tried replacing the explorer.exe with the same file from another win2k
install, but that didn't help.

We can start in safe mode, but that's about all.

Got any ideas out there??

Even tried a restore to last known good config. Didn't work, either.

Thanks.

The fact that you can load up in Safe Mode usually means that there is some
kind of 3rd-party software interfering with normal operation.
Try disabling 3rd-party browser extensions in IE:
Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Enable third-party browser
extensions (requires restart)
Let me know if this helps
