problem: explorer starts then stops

I've suddenly lost my desktop. Under Win2K Pro - explorer.exe starts and
then immediately quits. Including safe mode. No error messages. System file
check didn't help. I didn't find anything in the Knowledge Base. Any ideas
appreciated.

You will most likely need to re-install Windows 2000

Boot to c:\prompt
delete the profile, then restart the pc, logon again, it
will create a new profile and it should work just fine.

The machine is on a domain and the same thing happens when logging onto the
domain - profiles stored on the server - or the local account. And it
happens logging on with any account. I can see where it might be something
with a profile, but how all of them?
