WMP 9 / Windows 2000

I am trying to playback a WMV file created in WMM 2.x. The system I want to
play it back on is running Windows 2000. Because of that, I cannot download
WMP 10 or 11.

Is there any way I can get the WMV to play on the system described?

What happens when you try to play the .wmv file?

I am no longer at the same computer so I cannot provide exact error message
but it was something to the effect that WMP did not recognize the file.
(Windows Explorer had no trouble reading the CD & identifying the file
correctly as a .wmv).

I am wondering if it is a Codec problem. Can WMP 9 be updated if that's what
the problem is?

Knowing the exact error may help.

I don't know much about Win 2000 but
maybe the following link will be useful:
