Hello
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/moviemaker/downloads/moviemaker2.asp
offers Win Movie Maker 2

Since month I have a WMM Version 5.1
(Build 2600xpsp2.030422-1633 Service Pack 1)
working on my WinXP laptop.

1) What is the latest Version please.

2) I sent a .wmv produced with WMM 5.1
per FTP to a friend, operating also WinXP.
His WMP "cannot play the file"
My WMP plays the .wmv flawlessly.
How this?

Hi there,

Its not laid out on the about box very well, but the 5.1 refers to the
operating system and not to Windows Movie Maker.

the XP operating system is actually NT version 5.1 Its all down the
wonderful way microsoft name things.

The latest version of Windows Movie Maker is 2

If you are running a completely up to date XP, with version 9 of windows
media player etc, and your friend is not, then that would be the most
likely reason it has failed on your friends machine.

Thanks for the reply John.
WMP 9 on both machines is confirmed.
Still not figured out why an .wmv
runs on one WinXP and not on the other.

Question:
Could it be that WMMaker 2 brings
something like an own codec and has to be
installed on both ?
Does the WinXP Service Pack 1 play a roll?

Hi there,

With regard to MM2, the best way of thinking about it is to consider it to
be a skeleton program that gains much of its functionality from the codecs
that you make available to it. With regards to WMV files, it should make no
difference at all whether MM2 is on the target machine or not as that part
of the process is finished with.

I can't say whether SP1 plays a role or not, except to say, it is in any
case a good thing to have. If SP1 is not available on the target machine, I
would infer from that, that there will be a whole raft of updates that are
also not present, indeed, SP1 has updates to it! So, it follows that there
is a chance that something else is missing from the target machine which
may be important to this issue.

If you go the Microsoft's site you will be able to find an installer that
has all of the latest codecs (Ver. 9) As we are talking WMV files then it
would be a good idea to grab that installer and therefore be certain that
the right stuff is on both machines.. If you have any problems finding it,
let us know and we will dig it out for you.

It would be fine if you have the appropiate link
