What am I doing wrong? Each machine has the same user and

Is there a firewall on the XP computer? If it's the XP firewall turn it
off, if it's a third-party firewall you can try disabling it but you may
need to fully uninstall it.

I have disabled the firewall on the xp machine. I can ping
the xp from the 2000, otherwise it won't find it
using "computers near me." Please post as many suggestions
as you can. Thanks!!!!

Is the only problem you're having with browsing the network? If so, try
this simple test - log both computers on, then walk away for 15 minutes.
When you come back, do both computers appear in the network neighborhood
then?
