windows xp shut down screen

andy r

For some reason my shut down screen switched to the old
drop down list box for my options of shutting down,
logging off, etc. It used to be just a box with 3
buttons in it, one of them being to shut down. any ideas
how i get that back?

thanks, andy

Hi Andy,

Are you using the Welcome Screen and Fast User Switching? If not this is
the norm.

Andy, I think you might be having the same problem I do.
This changed after I downloaded some Microsoft Updates a
while back; it also changed the way my Welcome Screen
looked. I checked with Microsoft Online Help at the time
and there was something about a .dll file that was
changed with the update. I've just had to learn to live
with it.

Is the welcome screen activated? This sounds like it was turned off. Go to
control panel>user accounts>change the way users log on or off>check Use welcome
screen.
