Windows XP Home SP2 cannot connect to new Epson CX4200 usb scanne

The "Epson Scan" twain driver cannot connect to scanner. The printer of this
all-in-one device works fine. I can manually scan a document and then print
it. The Epson scanner item in the Device Manager always shows a yellow
exclamation point next to it. I worked with a great level 2 tech at Epson
over the phone for 1.5 hours and after trying many things he said it is a
problem with the operating system. It looks to me like there is some kind of
problem with permissions when trying to install the driver. We even tried
creating another user and it still would not work. I wonder if I created a
problem when trying to install my old Genius Vivid Pro USB scanner initially
on this PC and may have hosed xp some way?! I really don't want to reload
Windows XP. Can someone help me please?

Thanks, Big T

Thanks for responding Carl.
Yes, I know I may have created this problem but I would like to know how to
check to see if this truely is the problem and then how to fix it.

Thanks, Big T

See if Genius has an uninstall utility on their website.

Then you should also use the Epson uninstall utility and ensure BOTH devices
are completely gone from your PC. If you think they are, and neither are
physically connected, reboot.

Check there are no entries left in Device Manager (use View, Show Hidden
Devices to make sure)

Then start with the Epson installer.... don't connect the All in One until
it tells you to. And please let us know how it goes.

Cari,
I've tried uninstalling both the scanners but still have hidden icons of
both in Device Manager under Imaging Devices. Is there anyway to kill these
off? When right clicking on them and trying to uninstall them I get the
following error message: "Failed to unistall the device. THe device may be
required to boot up the computer." I'll bet if I can wipe out these hidden
devices in device manager that I could then install the Epson scanner OK.
