CX4200 and Windows XP Pro x64?

Hi all,

A friend of mine just got a new computer with XP x64 on it.
He had an HP printer/scanner that worked with the old 32bit
version but now HP does not have a 64bit version of the
software for it (PSC1610). He got a CX4200 to replace
the HP and I downloaded the x64 drivers from their website
but even though the CX4200 prints just fine, there is no
way to get it to scan. The download appearently just provides
a printing driver and nothing else. So my questions are:

1. is there any way to get this thing to scan?
2. will Epson ever put out the suite of software just like the
32bit software for the x64 version?
3. does anyone know of a current printer/scanner combo that
currently works with the new Windows XP Pro x64 OS?

thanks,
charles......

Because XP x64 isn't that wide spread, and in all testing offers
minimal, if any advantages over the 32 bit version, drivers are
scarce... Manufacturers aren't wanting to waste their time with
something that will be used by 3 people world wide.
Possibly if Epson received enough requests for a driver, they MIGHT do
something, or they may even have a Beta version.

THIS IS THE REASON ONE SHOULD NOT BE A PIONEER WITH XP64. I GUESS ONE
HAS TO WAIT FOR VISTA.

I regularly use an Epson Perfection 4870 Photo scanner with an Epson C88
printer on XP Pro 64bit Edition.
Epson has 64 bit drivers on their web site for both.

I also use the same Epson scanner with a Canon i9900 with 64 bit drivers
from the Canon web site on xp pro 64 bit Edition.

He may have to instal and use the Epson scanning software
(which is terribly slow) via the "Epson Smart Panel."

You need to pay a bit more attention to the web page at:
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/...=56291068&infoType=Downloads&platform=Windows
as your friend also needs:
TWAIN Driver and EPSON Scan Utility v2.68A
Windows XP 64-bit Edition
epson11620.exe - 9.1MB - posted on 10/11/05

Sometimes, the user has no clue as to the software that comes on
a new computer. I did get it working.

Some day 64bit software will be the majority and 32bit stuff will be fading.

Thanks ever so much. I guess I just missed the TWAIN driver stuff.

The driver situation in regard to XP x64 is improving, but it is still
slow off the mark. Certainly, as Dave suggests, pressuring the
manufacturers of peripherals is the best way to get this to change.

Drivers are costly to write, port and debug, so the companies have to
feel they are providing this service for enough people to make it worth
their while.
