Windows XP Hang

I have a Pentium 2.7gHz, and Radeon 9550.
A short while ago, my Pc started to hang (at random times, usually when I
first turned it on in the morning, it would hang at the XP Load screen,
sometimes at the logon screen, and other times just during normal use.)
This problem became more prevalent, so i decided to try a repair install. It
now hangs during this install as well.
This computer is currently useless... Any suggestions?
I've also completely cleaned out the case. It's free from dust.

Changed the graphics card over, disabled sound and usb, and ran chkdsk with
the /R parameter. It found errors, fixed them, and after booting into
windows, it hung after a few minutes. No change.

Update:
Safe mode, i've found, worked perfectly fine.
Since then, I've done a fresh install of windows. The install also hangs.
Any ideas?
