Windows will not start!!!

Here is what happened: I was using Rhapsody and the music began to loop in a
5 sec interval,and volume, mute, stop, pause, close, 3 finger salute, DID NOT
work. I ended up turning off the computer manually. Then when I tried to
power on I get a screen that says:
We apologize for the inconvience, but Windows did not start successfully. A
recent hardware or software change might haver caused this.
Then I get five choices:
Safe Mode, Safe Mode with networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Last
known config, and Start windows normally.
I have tried all of them and it keeps coming back to that same screen.
I have also tried the Advanced options with F8.
Please Help!!!

Caveat: Running chkdsk on a possibly trashed drive CAN result in complete
or partial loss of to data on that drive. If you have your data stored on a
non-boot drive though, you are probably going to be fine.

One thing you can try is to do a Repair Install (not the Recovery console;
next 'r' choice after that). In theory it will not destroy any data.
That said, I hope your backups are current <g>.
