windows sound test does not hear microphone

I am useing headphones and one day the mic stop working on a game I started.
I thought it was the game so I reinstalled it but no help. I tryed update the
drivers no help then I ran windows sound test and it could not hear the mic.
so I tryed SAM no help. So i tryed sound recorder and the mic work and it
works with windows missanger. So back to sound test and still it does not
work nor in that game as the game only see what sound test see.

ANy have two cents they can gave here?

Go to run,typeXDIAG Run the Direct X tests.

Ran Direct X tests and I get mic pass untill I run the wizard; then it said
that the mic failed gracefully
