microphone not working

I've plugged it into the Mic slot but it won't record. How do I make it work
on Windows Sound Recorder?

Double click on the speaker icon in the bottom right.

Click on options, properties.

Select the adjust volume for recording then click on

Make sure the microphone is selected.

I am having the same problem. My mic works on my brothers Dell, but not mine.
I've been through all the steps of checking my volume and settings and all.
In the Audio tab of Sound and Audio devices Control Panel, my only option
for "recording" is SigmaTel Audio, and not just simply "micropphone" like
I've seen on other laptops running XP I've had.

Any help is apprec.
