Windows Service Pack 2 Instalation failure

Ok this one even stumps me, half wayt thru installing service pack 2 it keeps
coming up and saying Access is Denied and cancels the install and deletes i
have tried everything all the updates on my computer are up to date. The
story is i was missing a few key files in windows and i decided to reinstall
windows XP got every single update up to service pack 2 but i now cant
install service pack 2 it downloaded fine. I have no other programs open or
running bar Windows Update so any help here to why i cant install it and how
i can go about installing it would be appreciated

Although I don't have an answer to your question (I'm sure the MS links from
TaurArian will help) you don't have to install all updates up to SP2, just
install SP2 and then the 70+ updates after that.
