Windows Media Center 2005 Linksys Extender

Since i installed microsoft spyware I have not been able
to get my Linksys Extender to connect to my PC (wireless
connection). If I shut the spyware off, then the extender
works as it should. I tried resetting the LSPs per
microsoft kb 892350 and the tcp/ip stack per kb 299357. I
can get the extender to work correctly by shutting down
the spyware, however, I would prefer not having to do
this. - Greg

Shutting down Microsoft Antispyware is the workaround for this issue.

The very first KB article written about this beta product describes this
issue:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892374 Windows Media Center Extender cannot
establish a remote connection after you install Windows AntiSpyware (Beta)
on a computer that is running Windows Media Center Edition 2005

--this hasn't changed since then. Here's hoping for a change with beta2. I
know Steve Dodson has this high on his list of priorities.

Please read the Release Notes for Microsoft AntiSpyware at
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/releasenotes.mspx

"There is an incompatibility between Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) and Windows
Media Center Extender. If you install Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) on a
computer running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, Windows Media Center
Extender cannot establish a remote connection. If you want to connect to a
Windows Media Center Edition 2005-based computer by using Windows Media
Center Extender, uninstall Windows AntiSpyware (Beta)."
