Windows mail shows attached pictures

My Windows Mail shows attached pictures below the body of the text either on
mail I send or mail I receive. I would prefer just to see the file in the
attachment window and open it when I want to.
How do I stop Windows Mail showing attached files below the text?

Hi Yosemitegate and Phremont,

Welcome to the newsgroup.

Check these settings in Windows Mail:
1. Click Tools.
2. Click Options.
3. Click the Security tab.
4. Check "Block Images and other external content........"
5. Click Ok.

I am a new user to Windows Mail but believe I have the same issue as this
original e-mail. I checked your suggestion and this block is checked in my
system. Anyway when I send a picture as an attachment it attaches the
picture and also embeds the picture at the bottom of the e-mail. I also used
e-mailed through Windows Photo Gallery and it did the same. Would like to
eliminate the embedded picture.

Whether an attached image is displayed inline or not is a function
of the recipient's email program. You have no control over that.

Gary: Most of us would like to fix this problem of huge inline
pictures in our Windows Mail that we receive. We ARE the recipient's.
Microsoft has ignored this problem for some time, many of us would
like to just see attached file names, not the pictures displayed in
the body. Is there any fix for this?

You could try this:
Tools, Options, Security, enable "Block images..."

Seems I can't avoid attaching a picture to a WinMail message ... and having
it also show in message body. Is there a way to avoid this? ... I find it
very much a nuisance ... and recipients don't like it. I've tried
"Options-Send-HTML Settings- don't check "send pictures with messages" ...
that doesn't work.

Any other thoughts?

If the message receivers also use Windows Mail, there's seldom a way to
avoid this since Windows Mail shows any attachments as part of the
message if it knows how to do this for those attachment types.

Whether or not an attached picture is displayed at the bottom of
the email is up to the receiving email program. You as the sender
have no control over which email program the recipient uses or how
he has it configured.

Excuse me? I don't see a problem description from you in this thread.
Without a detailed problem description I can't help you.

I tried checking the box in windows mail in the tools ,options ,security
It did nothing to fix my problem pic being opened in body of email ,outlook
never put pics in the body of email ,when sent and so you know the subject
of this group is exactly what my problem is and it seems ,that as useful
program as windows mail is this issue of embeding pics in body of email
,send, recieved cannt be corrected is this true ?

Whether an attached image is shown or not is up to the receiving email
program. The sending email program can't do anything about that.

If you never want to see pictures in received emails, try this setting:
Tools, Options, Read, "Read all messages in plain text".

The problem I am having is the same as everyone else. When I attach a
picture using the File - Insert - Insert File features my picture should show
up as an attachment. If I use File - Insert - Picture - then the picture
should show up embedded in the body text. The problem we all have is that
the picture is showing up as an attachment (in it's normal size) and also
embedded in the body (usually at twice it's size). I also cannot find a way
to access the Attachment Options Task Pane to help me send files and pictures
efficiently (that was listed on your website). I have this problem for every
e-mail I send that has a picture attached and also for all e-mails I receive
with pictures attached. I DO NOT have this problem with text documents that
are attached to an e-mail. I have gone into Tools - Options - Security Tab
-checked "Block images & other external contents" - this is already checked
off and still having the same problem. THERE HAS TO BE A WAY TO FIX THIS
PROBLEM - I CAN SEE FROM THE OTHER E-MAILS THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE SINCE
2007!!!!

WinMail and OE before it, always show an attachment at the end of the
message if it is an image. The only way around that is to zip it and that
way it won't be displayed. The image is not being sent twice, its just
showing up at the bottom of the message.
