Attached files

About 50% of the emails that I receive show the paper clip indicating an
attached file. However there is no file attached. When someone does send me
an attached file, the paper clip shows, also. I really hate to bring each
message I get up just to see if there really is a file attached.

I'm on a new computer, using the home version of vista, with Microsoft mail.

If your settings at tools>options>read tab, are set to 'read all in plain
text', then any HTML mail, with have an attachment showing, usually in the
form of att-etc?

Another known cause of the problem that you see, is if you have your version
of AVG set to scan your incoming mail?

Either way, get back for more info.

Thank you. I checked, and I do have AVG set to scan incoming mail. What is
your recommendation on that?

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.

Chances are, you installed AVG antivirus using its default install option.
If so, uninstall it, then reinstall, but select 'custom' install, which then
allows you to forgo installing the troublesome email scanning module.

While AVG is uninstalled, try Windows Mail again, just to verify that
the culprit has been found.

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
explained here:
