windows mail - not storing rules

I have created message rules in windows mail on four separate occasions, but
each time I either go into hibernate or shut down it must erase them. The
next time I open mail it does not process my mail as desired and when I go to
check the rules they are not listed.

Hi, dlrogue.

HOW do you "either go into hibernate or shut down"?

Someone asked today about the difference between Exiting WM (or WLM) before
shutting down, versus just hitting the Shut Down switch without closing WM
first. Maybe you've discovered one of the differences. :^{

When WM aborts for some reason, it does not get a chance to update its
indexes and other internal housekeeping. When it starts again, you may find
that messages you've already read are again marked Unread, and there may be
other anomalies - such as rules that haven't yet been filed permanently.

Next time you create the rules, exit WM before hibernating or shutting down,
and then restart it and see if your rules are still in place.

And please post back with your findings so that we will know what to tell
the next person who asks the same question. (In a newsgroup, we are the
student today, the teacher tomorrow. We all learn from each other. ;<) )

Hi RC,

I read this thread with interest. I have not noticed rules not being stored
when shutting down; but then I can't swear that they haven't either.

If my post is the one you were referring to re the difference between
exiting WM and shutting down, then I guess you may have answered my
question. Yes there is a difference. I suppose it's one of those things.

Hi, Delboy.
If my post is the one you were referring to

Yes, that's the one. I see you have a response there from Shawn (aka
brink). It says approximately what I said - I think.

The WM/WLM Team probably needs to work on this some more before RTM.

Thank you - that seems to have fixed it. You need to close out of WM in
order to save your changes/rules. I recreated my rules and then closed WM
and shut down the computer. After reboot my rules remained.

Hi, dlrogue.

I'm glad it's working for you. And thanks for the report back.
