Windows mail for newsgroups ONLY!!!

G

Guest

I want to use windows mail for reading newsgroups and Outlook 2007 for mail.

I've noticed that windows mail "thinks" that it's the default mail handler
(the check box is selected), but when i open default program in vista i've
selected Outlook 2007 to have all of it's defaults.

bottom line, When i right click a newsgroup post in Windows mail and attempt
to "reply" it open the mail message using windows mail and not outlook 2007.

FYI: When i type the "mailto:" command in IE or windows explorer it
correctly opens outlook 2007!!!

Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I am reply to you in News Only mode. To do this in OE7 is the same as OE6,
5, 4 (I not sure for OE 3, 2, 1)

winmail /newsonly

Of if using Outlook and Outlook should have done this for you

winmail /outnews

and then OE pretends it's Outlook's News

Set Outlook to be your news reader and it will configure for you.

It just pretends to be outlook, it still is OE. (And anyway Internet mail
feature in Outlook was taken from OE4).

I think your missing what I am saying......

When I right click on your newsgroup post and click "reply to sender",
Windows mail opens up a new email message with your name filled in the "to"
box.
What I want to happen is my real mail handler "outlook 2007" to open the
window with the mail message.

Something weird, in Windows Mail, Tools->Options, it says that windows mail
is the default mail handler. BUT if I go to an internet explorer window and
type "mailto: someone2somemail.com" it correctly opens Outlook 2007 to send
the message!!!

Someone must know what's going on here!!!

Please help!

No you are just being too clever. Work your computer as designed and it will
do what you want. Stop trying to force it. Set OUTLOOK as your news reader
and mail reader. Everything will configure it self as you want it.

Yo Vistanoob,

To just reply in Winmail to a post-like I'm doing now, DON'T click
reply, or reply to sender , because that does open Winmail like it is a
regular mail reply, not a reply to a newsgroup post, this is a newsgroup
account, so
choose Reply Group, and your problem is solved, Reply Group for newsgroup
accounts, Outlook for regular mail.

I think others previously reported this, and I believe there is no
resolution and that it is a bug, but you can search the other messages in
this newsgroup to confirm that.

Not possible. I have the same beef. Changing the "default mail" works
everywhere EXCEPT in Windows mail "Reply". Live with it or find another news
reader.

use the rely to group option in windows mail. This then replies driectly to
the newsgroup. Yes, if you click the reply button it will automatically open
your email client which, like me, is Outlook 2007.

Hi John,

Quite a number of people are saying this does not happen. So for you, it
does open Outlook and not WinMail?

How do you start WinMail when you go to NGs? Via the Read News in Outlook?

cheers,

steve

The Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility installs
Windows* INF files to the target system. These files outline
to the operating system how to configure the Intel(R) chipset
components in order to ensure that the following features
function properly:

- Core PCI and ISAPNP Services
- PCIe Support
- IDE/ATA33/ATA66/ATA100 Storage Support
- SATA Storage Support
- USB Support
- Identification of Intel(R) Chipset Components in
the Device Manager

This software can be installed in three modes: Interactive,
Silent and Unattended Preload. Interactive Mode requires
user input during installation; Silent Mode and Unattended
Preload do not.

This software also offers a set of command line flags,
which provide additional installation choices. The command
line flags are not case sensitive. Refer to Section 4 for
detailed descriptions of these flags.

Important Note:
The Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility is

Yes, if you click the reply button it will automatically open your email
client which, like me, is Outlook 2007.

Well, I haven't loaded Outlook 2007 yet, I have 2003. But it will not do
that for versions below 2007. Your comment here is the first I've ever heard
of this working. Many others (including MVPs) had said it does not work.

No man, I WANT to reply to the person ONLY, not the group that's why I
specifically stated when I click "Reply to sender"

My previous system (Outlook express and Outlook 2003) when I did this it
opened a new message using outlook!!!

V

VistaNooB

Really, but it worked in OE & Outlook 2003, did they remove functionality or
something???

V

Perhaps you should re-think that!
