Windows Mail - Cant delete one email in outbox with attachment

I have over 2000 emails listed in the deleted directory. The directory is
clean, o bits. I need to get rid of this list. From all the postings, MS
said they can't fix it. Another piece of junk produced by MS and released
before the bugs were worked out.

Hi Rodney,

None my attempts resulted in success. As you may know by now your problem is
the same problem a whole lot of people also face.

If someone from Microsoft, can please put some closure to this it would be
really good, right?

Hope you guys get lucky and solve this issue!

First of all, please unlock your CapsLock key.

Secondly, the Microsoft 'fix' is obviously not a permanent fix.
You can do the equivalent by following Steve Cochran's suggestion:

"Go to Tools | Options | Maintenance | Advanced | Store Folder to find the
message store location. Then move everything under that Windows Mail
directory to another directory. Then restart WinMail and it will open fresh
with nothing in the database. You can then add your accounts and if they
work correctly then you can use File | Import | Messages and choose
WinMail format and point to the directory to which you moved the files."

If you don't feel up to doing this procedure, your only other option is
to use a different email program until Microsoft comes out with a
permanent fix for WinMail.

Here is what I did, which may be a bit more lengthy than what most people
need to do due to the Vista user problems my version has. Most people should
be able to go to Computer, C Drive, Users, select their user name, and see
the AppData file from there, and I cannot.

I went to start
in the start search area (just above start) I entered C:\Users\my user
name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail (note that Windows Mail must be
written as two separate words)
I clicked on Windows Mail at the top of the list page
I selected WindowsMail.MSMessageStore and pasted a copy in my documents
(just in case)
then deleted the file
I opened the Backup folder
then Opened the New folder
Deleted the WindowsMail.MSMessageStore in this folder
Closed out of everything and then upon opening Windows Mail it restores
itself and also gives you several "restore" folders under the default folders.
I then proceeded to input my emails into the folders by copy and pasting (I
did notice a note online while searching that stated it is not a good idea to
copy and paste several emails at once as this action can cause another
"ghost" email, it also stated that doing anything too fast can cause this
problem.)

I hope this helps. I am more than happy to save anyone and everyone from
having the problems I've had.

Hi Gary,

I had microsoft set up another user account and change all e-mail, except
outbox over to the new account. Then I changed all folders over. that is the
second time in 2 weeks. Now I have one e-mail I can't delete from the inbox,
asked them if I could get rid of Vista and replace it with XP, she gave me 2
numbers to call for the refund center. They say there is supposed to be
something coming out in maybe June to fix the problems of Vista.

If Windows Mail is your only problem with Vista, wouldn't it be
simpler to just try a different email program that is compatible
with Vista?

The Windows Live Mail Beta is cool,
and it's good for newgroups and feeds.

Thunderbird can't combine and decode.

It all depends on your needs. Many people don't need the combine
and decode function, I don't. WLMD beta appears to have quite a few
bugs. I've been following their progress in the newsgroup
microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop.

OK cheers.
I'll keep a watch on that.

yeah,
I have sometimes used Road Runner, that works ok, but just not as
convenient, especially when sending attachments. Spoke to Gateway tonight
and they gave me three links for updates for microsoft for certain model
computers:

http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?ref=DX&id=21188
http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?ref=DX&id=21234
http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?ref=DX&id=21158
http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?ref=DX&id=21158

Anyway, Guess these initial releases for Vista

If you spent any time reading the other posts in this forum you would
find that this issue is a very common occurrence with Windows Mail,
and that a successful fix has been developed by Steve Cochran:

Go to http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/
When you start to download the wmutil.zip file,
be sure to choose Save rather than Run.
After it finishes downloading choose Run, then Extract. Then it will
show the extraction folder with two files in it, WMUtil.exe and scxout.dll.
Run WMUtil.exe, wait until the buttons become active, then click on
Clear Outbox. It may take a while. Before you start, make sure
Windows Mail is not running.

There are two copies of the message store database and so deleting the one
copy is unlikely to fix the problem.

I got this to work. I had an email in my outbox that would not send and
would not delete. It also prevented me from sending any other email.

I got distracted after trying to delete about 200 inbox messages, and just
left the "error box" up that told me it couldn't delete. Came back about 10
mins., and a delete was going on??? Seems there is a just long time element
involved?????
