Hi all

I have an email stuck in the outbox which I cannot delete. Im using Vista
RC2 with Windows Mail. When i choose to delete it, i get "an unknown error
has occurred".

How do i get rid of it?

See if the actual file is present in the outbox directory. I suspect its
not and there is a mismatch in the database and you probably can't fix it.

I just checked and my outbox directory is full of zero byte files in RTM.
Guess they didn't fix that one either.

I got the same thing this morning. I received the email yesterday and looked
at it and it was fine. Got up this morning to move it and get the "an
unknown error has occurred"

I also have the same problem. It commences with a circular from Tesco which I
can't even read, let alone delete.
Steve - when this started I didn't even have a Virus checker loaded so it
probably is not caused by intrusive checkers.
Incidently, I also have a problem with everything hanging. This occurs at
irregular intervals and even as soon as the blue ball is on the screen before
the welcome page.

Hi Rodney,

None my attempts resulted in success. As you may know by now your problem is
the same problem a whole lot of people also face.

If someone from Microsoft, can please put some closure to this it would be
really good, right?

Hope you guys get lucky and solve this issue!

The only solution so far is to wipe out the database. So go to
Tools | Options | Maintenance | Advanced | Store Folder to find the message
store location. Then move everything under that Windows Mail directory to
another directory. Then restart WinMail and it will open fresh with nothing
in the database. You can then add your accounts and if they work correctly
then you can use File | Import | Messages and choose WinMail format and
point to the directory to which you moved the files.

I, too, have had problems with WinMail in that I could not delete any email
in the Deleted Items folder. MS would not even talk to me because it was
preinstalled by Toshiba. Toshiba's solution? Restore all software to
factory settings. Wiped out everything, of course. But since that was the
only solution offered by anyone, I decided to try to avoid the problem in the
future by installing Mozilla Thunderbird. I love it, and to date have had no
problems with it! Window Vista? Very wary. Capri of FL

Thanks for confirming that the Thunderbird mail program works well
in Vista.

Gary,
Has anyone tried closing WinMail, opening Windows Explorer
Navigate to:
\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Local Folders\Deleted
Items

And delete the files from there?
Note: do not delete: winmail.fol

I don't have that problem, so I have no way to test it ...

I believe several have tried that, but it did not correct the situation.

The issue is that there is no corresponding file to the message in the
message list. Its represented in the database only, and the database
apparently doesn't check if the file exists or not.
