Windows Locked Up at start time

After starting my CPU with Windows XP Pro, I double-click on my Outloo
icon, or any other program icon for that matter, and it takes anywhere fro
1-6 minutes for the program to start

Any ideas on why this is

Thanks in advance for the suggestions

Here's a list of things it could be:

Low drive space (clean up some)
Spyware (try googling for "AdAware" for fix)
Virus (you do have a scanner, right? ;-)
Too much running (look in the sys tray next to the clock)
Not enough memory.

Good luck.

Could be trying to contact another machine or service on the network that
isn't there anymore. That would cause timeouts etc that would slow things
down a bit. Are you internet connected during boot, or do you use dial-up.

Or, could be a bad hard-drive. I had that once, the PC just dies (the
taskbar locks up) for 5-10 secs now and again, then comes back.

I also had a problem with an IMAP server that was a bit slow. It would take
30 secs for the log in screen to appear while it refreshed the unread mail
count.

Hope this helps. You could also take a look on the Event Viewer, where the
system logs things that happen. Right-click on "My Computer" and select
"Manage", it's in there.

Fraser.
