Windows Locked Up At Start Time

After starting my CPU with Windows XP Pro, I double-click on my Outlook
icon, any games, internet explorer, connection, or any other program icon
for that matter, and it takes anywhere from
1-6 minutes for the program to start. This Problem Has been Present since
the first time I Installed the WXP..
Pentium 4 1.7 GHZ --- 256 RAM--- 40 GB (25 gb free)----Internet Dial UP
Connection----

Any ideas on why this is?

Hi, Gonzalo. I answered your earlier post about Spanish newsgroups and
gave you a link, so you might want to check for that. As for this
problem, do the first steps of Windows troubleshooting:

1) Scan with current antivirus ("current" means a version not earlier
than 2002 but using updated virus definitions); 2) remove spyware with
Spybot Search & Destroy (www.security.kolla.de) and Ad-aware
(www.lavasoftusa.com). Be sure to update these programs before running,
and it is a good idea to do virus/spyware scans in Safe Mode; 3) delete
temporary and Temporary Internet Files; 4) stop unnecessary services
programs from starting with Windows - see www.blackviper.com for
services info and www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm for programs
info - 5) look in Event Viewer for clues.

If you'd like more help, then please repost, including what you've
already done to troubleshoot.
