Windows Installer Problem After Installing Updates

I installed the latest updates from the Office download
page. Since doing that, I have been having a problem with
the Windows Installer window opening every time I try to
use a function such as help or detect and repair in
Outlook. The window comes up then flashes two times
before closing on it's own. I tried to use the cd to run
detect and repair as well as the change function in add
remove programs, but I get this message: Windows
Installer This patch package could not be opened.
Verify that the parch package exists and that you can
access it, or contact the application vendor to verify
that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package. I
have just recently started using Outlook and love it's
features, but it seems to be very tempermental. I
appreciate the time you experts put into this group for
help the less informed of us.

Hi Jerry,

Try logging in as the Administrator and start Outlook while having the
CD-ROM in your drive. If this doesn't help please check the Event Viewer and
see if there is anything logged there regarding Outlook or the Windows
Installer.
