Windows Installer errors

Since installing Office 2007 Beta, I have suffered numerous problems
with Outlook. I decided to go back to my copy of Office 2000 (fully
registered) and did restore.

I then encountered numerous errors with Office 2000 which weren't there
before: I couldn't use repair/uninstall/re-install, am continually
presented by this error "This patch package could not be opened. Verify
that the path package exists and you can access it, or contact the
application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer
Parch Package".

Software is 100% legit!

Did a Google on Windows installer errors, as this Windows Installer
Window seems to crop up every few minutes, and came up with this useful
thread:

I have followed every piece of advice, renamed msi.dll, msiexec
/unregister msiexec /regserver, attempted to install latest Windows
Installer pacakge from Microsoft site, but it tells me it already has a
later version. Reinstalled SP2 - all to no avail.

In desperation I reinstalled Office 2007 Beta (and despite confirmation
on screen it hasn't fully unistalled Office 2000) but Windows Installer
keeps popping up on screen.

Basically I want to fully uninstall everything I have for Office both
2007 & 2000, but I can't do anything with 2000, as described above.

Format of HDD seems a little drastic at this stage, anyone got any
ideas, please?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
