Hello, is there a way I can make 'details-view' the default view every time
I open a window? Mine seems to revert to icons automatically.

Thanks

Vista stores several folder templates for different types of data.
You can customize the layout for each template.
Folders created in the future will use the appropriate template.
Here's how:

1. Open your Documents folder.
2. Right click within the window and select CUSTOMIZE THIS FOLDER.
3. Select one of the template options from the drop-down list.
4. Configure the columns and layout the way you want it.
5. Click on the ORGANIZE button on your toolbar and select FOLDER AND SEARCH
OPTIONS.
6. Select the VIEW tab and click the APPLY TO FOLDERS button. Also, while
you're in the VIEW tab, make sure
REMEMBER EACH FOLDER'S VIEW SETTINGS is checked under the ADVANCED SETTINGS.

This will use the configuration you just set up for all folders of that type
in the future.
Do the same (steps 2-6) for each of the template types and you now have
default layouts for each folder type.

There's one more step if you want a 'clean start':
Delete the registry keys
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU]
and
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags]

This will delete existing folder settings, but folders created in the future
will use your saved templates for the layout.
For existing folders, you will need to configure them once. Their layout
will be retained because you checked the REMEMBER setting in step 6 above.
