Explorer display settings keep changing.

I prefer the "details" display in explorer for all windows, but the setting keeps getting changed from "details" to "icons", "tiles", or "thumbnails" for no apparent reason.

I do what I think is right, in that I set a window to "details", going to "tools"-"Folder options"-"view" tab, then selecting "apply to all folders". The setting seems to last for a few days, then revert back to whatever Bill Gates wants.

Can anyone tell me what is going on, or tell me how to keep my preference?

Thanks!!

I downloaded the .reg files, but I have not run them yet because I don't
understand what they do. The link does not seem to have any discussion
other than a few words, which are somewhat cryptic. I didn't even know
there was a size limit on the number of folders. I do use more folders than
most people do.

Please help me a little more:
* Should I run both folderproperties.reg and bags8000.reg?
* If so which one should I install first, or does it matter.
* If you can do it easily, please explain the descriptions of the
functions or tell me how I can find an explanation. I repeated the
descriptions below to make it easier:
2. Increase Folder View Size Limit to 8000 Add Folder to Start Menu -
Replace MP or MM
225. Restore Folder Options/Internet Options Change the Logon Screen
Saver Automatically

Windows remembers 400 folder settings. When that number is reached some
settings aren't retained any longer. You can change this to 8000 by adding
this edit to the registry.

Run this edit, then reset your preferred folder options:

Increase Folder View Options Limit: (Line 2)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
