How folders and files display

Is there someway to set a default "view" for folders? I have this problem
bith in Windows XP and Win 2000. I have set Windows to display any folder
or file as it was last viewed. Occasionally I want thumbnails, particularly
where the files are pictures. But otherwise I prefer the "Details" view.
Yet it seems that whenever I open Windows Explorer (or My Computer) I get
thumbnails. Since the vast majority of what I am working with are Word or
pdf files, thubnails are even less than useless.

Hi Joe,

In Explorer, set the view the way you want all folders to look. Then
click, Tools, Folder Options, View tab. Click the "Apply to All
folders" button.

Now if you change an individual folder, it should only affect the folder
you're currently in, unless you use the above to change all of them again.
