The above error message, in full:-

Application failed to initialize:0x800106ba. A problem caused WDS to stop. to start the service, restart your computer or search Help and Support on how to start manually.

I have tried restarting several times but message is the same!.

I do not find the H & S any help for a relative newcomer to computers.

Could this be a common problem?

Many thanks for prompt response. My O/S is Windows XP Home Series 2.
I guess the Microsoft Windows Defender must have been installed automatically?

Suggest you un-install and close down the pc & then start up again & then re-install and see if that helps?
If not post back & we can go from there:thumb:

Have got as far as "Add or Remove Programs" but surprised to see "last used 23/10/2006" and "used rarely". This throws me, as I had imagined this was a new update! What has caused this to show up after 2 months?
