Windows Defender encountered an error: 0x80004003. Invalid pointe

Windows Defender popped up in my system try with a yellow exclamation. When
I opened, it says I haven't scanned my computer in 6 days. When I click
"Start Scan" I got the error message in the subject line.

Is this a known issue?

I've seen that one myself, but found that I was able to run a scan myself, I
think.

This may be temporary--a restart may fix it, but here's what I think I did:

start, run \program files\windows defender\mpcmdrun scan <enter>

(this will run a full scan as an administrator, I believe)

It will leave a command window open which you will need to minimize and
leave open for the duration of the scan. If you run Windows Defender, you
will be able to see the scan progress--you can open and close Windows
Defender as you wish without interrupting the scan.

Hi,

This is what another user (Dave) suggests to do:

"I had this problem on 2 PCs and this entry led me to finding the answer,
so
I'm replying to help anyone else. I had previously set Defender to Custom
Scan, but when I went to Scan/Custom Scan, there were no drives selected. I
selected my C Drive (the others are CD/DVD/Card Readers), it then scanned
without error messages.
Dave"

Hope it helps.
