Window's Automatic Updates is downloading the same Hotfix.

Hello!

The Window's Automatic Update is dowloading a previous
Hotfix that already been downloaded and installed. I do
notice however that the update is not appearing on
my "Add or Remove Programs" list. The Hotfix is
the "Critical Update for WIndows Media Player Script
Commands (KB828026).

Initially, when the Hotfix was downloaded, I did
encounter a problem. I was getting the error message:

""MDAC Hotfix Installer has encountered a problem and
needs to close."

I went to the Microsoft website to resolve the issue and
was instructed to delete the Dahotfix.log. I did do this
and was then able to install the update.

I do not know if deleting the log has anything to do with
the problem of the same update being downloaded or the
Hotfix not appearing on the "Add or Remove Programs"
list .

Thanks!!

Kevin

The hotfix 828026 does show in the add/remove programs list. Since you don't
show it, it is a good indication it is NOT installed on your computer.

I did click on the "Install" button in the Automatic
Updates console. I believe I have done this more than
once.

I do click on the Install button, and the console tells
me that it has been installed.

The hotfix was not *completely* installed. Parts of it are on your system,
the rest is not. It's a kind of software purgatory.

This typically happens when antivirus protection - or similar software which
protects a system from installation scripts - is left running while
downloading from Windows Update. You should temporarily disable your
antivirus protection until after the update successfully installs.
Temporarily, he said.
