windows 98se to xp

I keep getting these messages when I try to install xp:
setup cannot copy D:\1386\infc42dll to
C:\WINDOWS\setup\info42dll and setup cannot copy
D:\1386\migisol.exe to C:\WINDOWS\setup\migisol.exe.
What do I need to do?

Examine the Windows XP CD and make sure it is absolutely "pristine clean"
with no scratches, fingerprints or smudges. Use a mild non-ammonia based
household cleaning solution and a soft cloth to clean it. Then try upgrading
again. Review the following first:
