Hello:

Help.....Are they 2 Versions of Windows 2000 Professional? One just that
and the other one being the "Commemorative Edition"? What is the difference?
Also, I got 4 Disks...? Will describe them if anyone have the time....

Thanks.

Maybe the 'commemorative' one already has SP4 or similar slipstreamed
in? Maybe extra software included?

By 4 disks, do you mean floppies? You can use the CD to create a boot
floppy set for computers that cannot boot from a CD.

Otherwise, if you got 4 CD's, maybe they just contain extra software,
most likely trial and other garbage.

Thank you so much Andrew, for taking the time answering my question.

The one I have is the Commemorative Edition
I have more info about it; on the outside of the Box this is written:

B23-00079
PO: 4400000736
WO:26255-0-0-0215

And the Discs Case are:

Windows 2000 Advanced Server (2 CD) (Identical to the one below)
Windows 2000 Advanced Server (2 CD)
Windows 2000 Server (2 CD)
Windows 2000 Professional (1 CD)

These are definetly the original CD's: the person who gave them to me left
the country, and used to work for Microsoft and received the whole thing as
reward for his work there.

What confuses me the most is I have another unopened box "Advanced Server 25
CAL" which I thought some of these discs might be belong to but box has one
in it already, and unponed. All of them have different Key Numbers.

I do have the instruction booklet yet no information as what is included in
the box...?

Thank you

Most of the CDs you have refer to Windows 2000 Server, not
to Windows 2000 Workstation. Someone paid a lot of money
for these. Unless you need a server (and know how to configure
it!), you should use the Windows 2000 CD and forget about
the rest.

Thank you pegasus.

You are right, he told me that there were sold for thousands of Dollars, on
those years.

I don't need the Server Series that is why I didn't open its box. I see
them sold on line with very different prices.

Only, I was curious about the 2000 Profesional; it was tempting to use
somethng so advanced, for me, so I opened it but was worried I might loose
the files I have in my computer and didn't install it: you see, I am
"noTech"...:( , and left it in the drawer with al the CDs he has given me
months ago: Now, I don't remember which ones were without any box and which
ones came with 2000 Pro Box. As I have mentioned, there is only one single
CD that says 2000 Pro: is that all? Oh, there is also one other floppy,
packed in a plastic case, written on it: "You are Important to us, Register
Today" and, "Windows 2000 Professional, Server, and Advanced Server High
Encryption Disk"

I wish I could contribute to this Board instead of being a time-waster, very
sorry.

Thank you

Your remark "...but was worried I might loose the files I have
in my computer" is of concern. It implies that you belong to the
large group of users who do not believe in backing up their
important files. Most change their minds when they suffer a major
hit - by which time it is usually well too late. A 2.5" disk in an
external USB case would be a low-cost but highly effective
backup medium.

After your most recent reply I'm not sure if you have any
further questions.

Hello again Pegasus:

From my last posting, "As I have mentioned, there is only one

English is not my first language - it is a good excuse: I was trying to
find out if 2000 Professional comes with only one CD? And, if the floppy I
mentioned above is needed with it?

Regards.

English is not my first language either. Win2000 comes on a single
CD, and if the BIOS of your PC lets you specify the CD drive as
the primary boot device then you do not need any floppy disks.
You can boot up the machine with the Win2000 CD, then install
Win2000.
