Win32LastError is 14001?!

I am getting this error message while trying to install XP
Pro on an old Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop.

Fatal Error
An Error has been encountered that prevents setup from
continuing.
One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup
could not be installed.
Untranslatable message, Win32LastError is 14001
Press OK to view the Setup log file.

I have never seen this type of error during a XP Pro
install (have done hundreds)... any clue what is bombing
out here and any solution to fix it?
