Win2k won't repairl...aaaarghh!

Hi,
follow up to an earlier post, after installing/upgrading to a new
Asus A7N8X-X board, PC3200 400mHz Corsair Ram, and a 2400 XP Athlon cpu,
my win2k installation would not boot.
I tried to do a repair on the 2nd screen using the win2k CD, but after the
files are copied to my HD, C partition, after a reboot, Win2k starts to
detect the hardware, but it stalls/stops at about 25/30% and won't go any
further. I have noticed that each time I try this, the Floppy drive is
accessed a number of times, maybe 4/5, and then all action stops.

I have 'backed off the ram timings' to the slowest I know, ie 200MHz
instead of 400MHz, but still no go

Any ideas please?

thanks

You don't mention having provided any necessary motherboard drivers. I
am not familiar with that motherboard, but the symptoms you describe
seem to point in that direction.

Hi Bob,
ok thanks for coming back to me.
No, the files on the provided CD are:

This nForce Win2K driver package contains the below components:

Audio driver 3.14 (WHQL'd)
Audio utilities 3.07
Network driver 2.81 (WHQL'd)
GART driver 2.78 (WHQL'd)
SMBus driver 2.75 (WHQL'd)
Memory controller driver 2.75 (WHQL'd)
Installer 3.11

No motherboard drivers listed at all

Thanks

Those would be the "motherboard" drivers. They support the hardware on
the motherboard.
