Backing off ram timings. How?

Hi,
due to a problem with Win2k, not being bootable since I installed the
A7N8X-X board with a Athlon XP2400 cpu and PC3200 Corsair ram, I was told
on the m.p.win2000.hardware group to back off the ram timings.

I tried to do a repair of win2k, but it just hangs at a certain point and
goes no further so I have to reboot into Linux.

I have most things set at Optimum in the BIOS, as I don't really know what
settings to use yet.

Thanks

Hi Bob

Download memtest86 to test your ram. If it fails, go into the bios and set
the ram timings down a bit. start with the optimal setting and by SPD. (on
newer ASUS boards optimal is the normal setting and aggresive is the high
performace setting) If you dont get errors in memtest, the ram and
timings are ok. If you do get errors try to slow the the timings with the
manual settings. Also just setting the front side bus setting down to 100
and running the test will work. If you still get memory errors reported
try different ram or just one module at a time if you have more than one
installed.

Why pair a 133FSB CPU with 200mhz memory? The memory is obviously overkill
for your CPU. Should it run? It probably should but you'll have to
manually drop the memory frequency to 133 in bois. The good news is that you
should be able to overclock pretty easily and do a CPU move up when you're
ready. As for the timings, I would leave them as is (SPD).

Though officaly correct, It sounds to me a marketing misnomer to call the
2400xp a 133 fsb cpu?
I get them impression that because of their stepping all these chips will
run just as happily at 166. -My 2000xp shows no problems at 180 :/

Run the memory in sync with fsb at 166Mhz, cpu multiplier at 11.5 for ~2500
performace (not occ'ed)
Youll want to track down a a7n8x-x bios guide from somewhere for how to set
things...
