why Vista wont let you install any drivers for your hardware

i have recently built my own desk top system for scratch and have intsalled
windows vista on it but when i came to installing my motherbroad drivers and
the drivers relating to my other hardware ie graphics, modem it would not
install or if it did install it caused my system to be unstable and I would
have to use the system restore or press my reset switch on the tower. i even
tried to install a recently released game'Sid Meyers Civilisation iv' again
windows vista would not run the program. Iam very unhappy with this system
and with Micrsoft . Surely the legeacy programs or emualtors programs ensure
the backware compatiblity for the software that is still around not allowing
16 bit drivers to install and run as virtual machine it taking the biscuit so
to speak.Surely Microsoft are not using sharp practises to push the lower end
producers of software and hardware out of the market . Or are they trying for
a technology push to force the public into spending vast amounts of money on
very expensive hardware that have been made expensive because the software
have had to go through the process of certfication to get their drivers
signed. i know you probably say this is all to prevent viruses and hackers
trying to ruin your system but if microsoft had been alittle more forthcoming
with companies like macAfee nad norton they could worked together and making
an operating system that will be more friendly to other software & hardware
producers. I am not happy at all with the new Vista .

May be the drivers you are trying to install are not compatible with vista.
In that case, try to get update and vista compatible versions of your drivers.

Windows Vista is backwards compatible with a lot of hardware and
software.
But it also is not compatible with others.

Are you using Vista drivers?

Have you contacted the hardware or software manufacturers for the
items that are not compatible?
Some of it may already have updates to resolve the issues.
Have you tried Compatibility Mode for older software.

Some software is so poorly written that backwards compatibility may
not be practical.

The time to verify Vista compatibility is before purchasing Windows
Vista.

It is thought that Norton and McAfee hire virus writers to gain marketshare.
Each company has rogue agents releasing viruses into the wild so that their AV
program will be first on the scene with a fix, while the competing company lags
by weeks trying to discover and figure it out. Some serious Munchausen by proxy
disease going on against the computing world at large.
