Vista & latform drivers?

Hi all,

A simple question regarding Vista....

At the moment when I build a new XP machine in general I go the manufactures
website for the motherboard and graphics card and install the drivers on top
of the new XP installation. Likewise with new hardware such as webcam,
keyboard, mouse etc.

Now what I am unsure about is with Vista is there still a need to do this or
is the intention that Vista will know about the majority of hardware? My
current system is home built and running Vista Beta RC1 (5600), I have a
Gigabyte SLI motherboard and a pair of Gigabyte Nvidia 6600GT graphics
cards. I have installed no additional drivers to date and am unclear if I
should go seek the latest or not?

Regards,

Paul

In the past, Windows Update drivers (and the drivers supplied with the O/S)
were not necessarily optimized for your computer. They were fairly generic.
The drivers also usually lacked full functionality, as compared to the
drivers available from the device manufacturers web site. I would imagine
the same to be true with Vista supplied drivers.

If optimized drivers are available from the manufacturer you should track
them down and use them.

Just as in the past, if the OS drivers for the hardware are performing up to
your expectations, then your good to go. If not, then seek updated drivers
from the manufacturers website.
