Why does the installation require a reboot (upgrade to 1.0.701)

For a long time MS have been talking about trying to eliminate (or at least
dramatically reduce) the need for reboots.

I just upgraded to version 1.0.701 and guess what - I am greeted with the
following :
"You must restart your system for the configuration changes made to
Microsoft AntiSpyware to take effect.
Click Yes to restart now or NO if you plan to restart later."

Does the install REALLY need to perform a reboot in order to succesfully
install ? (and if so why ?).
Are there any plan to remove this requirement in the future.

Thanks

Yes, they do plan to remove this requirement in the future.

The current requirement relates to the ability (or lack thereof) of the
installation software involved to remove the Shell Execute Hook which is at
the heart of parts of the real-time protection.

A new install doesn't require the restart--just a removal and reinstall, or
upgrade. This'll be gone with beta2, I believe.
