why do jpg files attach as 2 to 3 MB files

When I attach a photograph (small jpg file) to an outgoing message in OUtlook
2003, it gets attached as a much larger file (eg 2-3MB)

Then I really can't attach 2-3 pictures because the bundle is too large.

It appears as if we both are experiencing a similar symptom in regards to
image inserting. The long link below is where I posted my dilema and ifanyone
responds to that it'll probably help you too. Let me know if you come across
any solutions to this and I'll be sure to keep checking back.
