What are icons in lower right corner of ol2000 main page?

In outlook 2000 on an XP machine i am seeing an icon that has an hourglass
over a telephone in the lower right corner. other times i see an icon of a
network drive with an "X" through it. I am not on a network. what does this
mean?

I believe they mean "waiting for a modem to answer" and "working offline",
respectively.
