A web page i go to almost every day, www.fileplanet.com doesnt load. I can access all other sites ive been to fine . i havent been able to access the site for almost 2 weeks. at first i though the site was just down, but i tired to access the site on my brothers PC and was able to get the site to load fine. All other websites i go load fine, i havent come acros
any other sites that wouldnt load, Just www.fileplanet.com, so far. At first i though the problem was caused by some
MS security updates i downloaded, because it seem to have started after i installed the updates, but a few days ag
i got a new Harddrive and did a clean install of winXP Home. I was able to access the site until i started installing other software and hardware drivers, it was after i installed my sound card drivers, that i coudnt access www.fileplanet.com anymore. i've Tried lowering the security setting In IE, but that didnt work, i even tried a different web browser, Mozilla, and i still cant access the site. The site dosnet aprear to be blocked by IE its self, My router and firewall or any other programs i have installed. I also did a ping of fileplanet.com, and it was sucessful. Can anyone help me, any help i
appriciated, Thank

It may be a HOSTS file problem.
Look for a file named HOSTS (no extension, could be hidden) rename it
OLDHOSTS.

If you did not create the file, then you may have parasites, or you are
using a web accelerator program that would be causing this problem.

I changed the HOSTS file as you said, but it had no effect. I am not using
any web accelerator programs, but as far as parasites goes, when ever i ru
ad ware, it always finds a "possible browser hijack attemtp" even after i delete i
and run the scan again, it comes back. Ive also run multiple virus scans but the
all come up negative.

That's good evidence that your problem is DNS related.

What does nslookup for that site show you?

FWIW here is mine:

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: www.fileplanet.com
Address: 207.38.1.202

If you ping -n 1 that site does it resolve to the same address?

<example>
Pinging www.fileplanet.com [207.38.1.202] with 32 bytes of data:
</example>

If not it would suggest that you are getting an override for that site
from your HOSTS file or your dnscache. Delete any overriding
entries from there and then flush your dnscache:

ipconfig /flushdns

If there is not an overriding entry but your nslookup was wrong
or seems sluggish perhaps you should try making one? E.g. add:

207.38.1.202 www.fileplanet.com

(If you want to add some blank lines with it I think it may be better
if you made them comment lines, e.g. put # in column 1.)

Good luck
