wallpaper reset to a spyware popup ad

Sorry but this may be long. A few days ago I was online with yahoo messenger
and I tried to go to a site and realized that my homepage addy had been
changed, I figured spyware. I didn't think much about it until my wallpaper
changed to something that appears to be an ad for spyware removal software
with a "hotlink". I signed off and tried to run my spyware program and got an
error message that it could not be loaded. I then tried to run my virus
program, same thing. I then tried to get online to make sure my virus program
was updated, same thing. It has also did this with several other programs as
well as not allowing me to reset my computer to an earlier date (system
recovery) nor will it allow me to get rid of the spyware ad wallpaper. Has
anyone else ran into this problem? Any help or info would be greatly
appreciated. I can not find any info about a virus with these symptoms. Thanks

my antivirus is grisoft AVG my spyware program is spybotSD I am at work so I
will have to follow up on the error messages when I get home. My homepage has
been reset to something like "wow" or "win" don't remember at the moment,
plus if I failed to mention, it load a bunch of porn sites in my favorites
folder.

If none of the above fixes the issue then download Hijack this, run it, save
a copy of the log file and cut and paste it back here to this group so that
I can analyze it. Ignore anyone who tells you to post it elsewhere. I need
to see it not them.

If you need to run Hijackthis, contrary to pcbutts1 suggestion, don't
post it here. He has been told many times, but refuses to comply, that
this is not the forum to post hjt logs. Here are some good forums for

Ok..........I didn't want to start a fuss between other users all I need is
some help...................
when I start a program it comes up as

"whichever program".exe-Application Error
The application failed to initalize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to
terminate the application.


I also checked the properties of the hyperlink on the desktop wallpaper and
it is a link to www..psguard

please email me with help I am desperate I need this laptop and I am at wits
end

Ok here is an update. I downloaded hijack this and saved a log of it on the
laptop, however I do not have a floppy disk on that computer only a cd
burner. Well as you may have guessed it. The burning program will not run so
I have no way of posting it anywhere.
