That error means a product with an invalid license was found on the system.
Have you installed a pirated copy of Windows?

Hi you people. I have a preinstalled Windows Vista on my new laptop and i
have got the same error problem with my Defender. So, at least in my books,
i am using a legal version of Windows. Has anyone a solution for this error
code? I have tried the online help from Microsoft, and they dont seem to
have this problem solved.

It worked for me also. Quick question though. Do I have to turn off automatic
update everytime?

Nobody's reported that yet, and that's almost two weeks old, so let us know
if you have to do that.

You are not alone! I have suffered through this for 3days, 2 hang-ups from
Support with both MS & HP...finally stumbled upon returning ALL searches to
"default settings" & making sure that I had followed the steps to check
"apply" actions! & ok. Now it doesn't seem to be the current version, so I am
tempted to uninstall & reload the version on DownLoad Site.
Hope this helps!

Hey all,

I have a Gateway desktop which came with Windows Vista installed and I'm
having the same problem. I tried the fix by turning of automatic updates but
it didn't work for me...I'm not surprised, thats just my luck. Any other
suggetions?

Hey again, never mind. I went back and read the instructions again. I clicked
the button to turn off automatic updates but forgot to uncheck the other
boxes. When I did it the right way it worked perfectly. Once again, just user
error. Thanks a million from Texas y'all.

I am having the same problem with my Asus laptop that is using Vista Home
Premium. The same error appeared several weeks ago with my desktop that is
using Vista Ultimate. The problem resolved itself in several days with my
desktop via updates but I am still waiting for the resolve with my Asus
Laptop. Both copies of Vista are Genuine!

I have the same problem with a new Asus premium vista (genuine). Clearly this
is a common problem with Defender, it needs to be fixed NOW.

brilliant fix - on second try that is (i really must come here again) I got
there in the end.But judging from the sheer amount of problem windows on this
sight related to vista. It looks like the new customers for this product in
the uk are going to struggle for some time yet,Mr Gates really needs to get
his act together, this is rediculous, with a capital r.Thanks non the
less,reguards-
